Michelle Colbert
Michelle Colbert is a contemporary realist portrait artist and printmaker living in Andalusia, Alabama. Her primary source of inspiration for her raw and gritty style of mark making and subject matter comes from visiting salvage yards for scrap metal with her father, a gunsmith and metal worker. The immense number of discarded machinery and unidentifiable objects coming together to make grotesque caricatures of natural wonders awoke in her a romantic form of cynicism that is translated into her monoprints and linocuts.
Michelle earned her BFA in Printmaking and Book Arts from the University of Georgia where she fell madly in love with Letterpress and created Static Press.
Michelle Colbert is the recipient of an Award for Overall Excellence from the Betty Foy Sanders School of Art’s Annual Juried Exhibition. She has exhibited her work in several group exhibitions including the 2007 Juried Exhibition at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and the 25th Annual Printmaking and Book Arts Exhibition where she was awarded the Silver Sprayer Award.
